Windows & Mac recovery app · Customer-held private keys · No platform connection needed to recover a downloaded backup
Your business records should remain accessible on your terms. Download an encrypted recovery package and keep it on an external drive, in your own archive or with your organisation’s other disaster-recovery materials.
With the complete package, matching private recovery key and recovery software saved locally, you can verify and recover the data without signing in, contacting our servers or relying on our hosting infrastructure.
Set up your customer-controlled key in Company Settings → Backup. Then create an offline copy from an available recovery point.

Download the complete encrypted package, its verification key and the recovery software. Store them in your own archive, with the private recovery key and password protected separately.
Open the package in Recovery Desktop, select your private key and choose a destination. Verify the backup and decrypt the recoverable files and catalogue locally, without a connection to We Secure Data.
Each recovery package represents your organisation’s data at the selected recovery point. Encrypted file content travels with a recovery catalogue and signed manifest, so your archive retains both the data and the information needed to understand and verify it.
Recover the file content included in the selected snapshot, including retained file versions associated with your messages, Vaults and File Drop workflows.
Keep the exported company records and file references alongside the recovered content. The catalogue preserves the context of your organisation’s backed-up data.
Signed manifests and file integrity checks help you verify the package and detect changed or incomplete data before relying on a recovery.
Only your public recovery key is registered with the platform. Your private recovery key and its password are used locally by the recovery app to unlock the downloaded backup.
Keep the matching keys for every backup you retain. If particular files use additional customer-exclusive or paper keys, retain those keys too.
Refresh your offline archive regularly and test opening a backup before you need it. Keep a separate copy of your recovery materials and a written recovery procedure your authorised team can follow.
